Student Journeys @Z Club NY – Lauren M.

It was such a delight to hear about Lauren Murphy’s journey and her love for Zumba® and Z Club NY. She says that before Z Club NY, she did not consider herself an “athletic person” and so did not incorporate fitness into her adult life. How has taking classes with Z Club NY benefited your life?
Taking classes with Z Club NY has allowed me to discover a workout that I actually enjoy! I always took dance classes and was on dance teams and cheerleading teams growing up and throughout high school, but since that time I’ve been unable to find a fitness routine that I consider fun. Taking classes with Z Club NY has allowed me to discover a workout that I actually look forward to! Class is a great “de-stresser” for me, too — if I have a stressful day at work, after sweating through an hour of Zumba®, I feel a thousand times better!

What inspires you to succeed in class and in your life?
I am inspired to succeed in class because I enjoy dancing and feel so great after class is over! I’m inspired to succeed in life and at work because I enjoy what I do. There’s nothing more fulfilling than setting a goal and achieving it!

How has Zumba/ZClubNY supported your health and fitness goals?
My goal was always just to find a workout that doesn’t feel like “working out”. Zumba® is so fun that even though you’re working hard, to me, it doesn’t feel like I’m working out — it’s just a good time!

What have you learned about yourself through taking classes at Z Club NY?
Prior to Z Club NY, I never made fitness a part of my adult life because I don’t consider myself an “athletic” person. Taking classes at Z Club NY has made me realize that just because I think running is torture and and I am terrible at contact sports doesn’t mean I’m not cut out for any kind of fitness. It was really just about finding a workout that is fun for me!

How did you come across Z Club NY and Zumba in general? What is your favorite part about Z Club NY?
I stumbled across Z Club NY while looking for a gym with dance fitness classes to join. I had never done Zumba® before when I took my first Z Club NY class, but after that first class, I was hooked!

What is your favorite part of Z Club NY?
I love that all the instructors are so energetic and inspiring — it’s impossible not to have fun in class! It’s also really nice that there is such a warm, friendly vibe at Z Club NY, and there is nothing intimidating about it.

Which classes/Instructors are your favorite? Why?
I think that what makes Z Club NY so special is that EVERY instructor is fantastic. I could go on and on about all of them! In particular, I’m addicted to Jamie Forward’s class — not only is her choreography fantastic, but her energy is contagious and she inspires you to give it your all. An hour in her class flies by!

What is something unique about yourself that you’d like to share?
Hmmmm… I hope to have a teacup pig as a pet someday. I just have to find a building in Manhattan that’s cool with that :)
